Are you battling your little ones to take their medicine? Is bad-tasting liquid keeping your kids from getting the nutrition they need?

Yummy flavorings are among the specialties you’ll find at Creative Compounding of Lapeer. The center has the capabilities of creating a dose of medicine that’s as unique as the patient taking it.

Registered pharmacist and owner Jerry DuFresne said by simply asking the pharmacist to not add the water, he can add the flavoring when the medicine is reconstituted. “Otherwise, it makes it hard on the parent and child,” he said.

DuFresne said an increasing number of women are visiting the Creative Compounding Center to find a more natural approach to hormone replacement therapy. His wife, Cheryl, meets with clients who are looking to avoid synthetic products.

“We’re getting more women into bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, which are hormones just like those that are natural in your body,” he said. “Synthetics are basically manmade. When you put it in your body, it mimics what’s in your body but it’s not identical.”

It’s always best to have a physician’s recommendation before a consultation. “We try to keep the doctor informed as to what we’re doing.” DuFresne said. “We like to verify it with the doctor.”

The center receives a visit each week from Mike Sadler, R., Ph., owner of Advanced Pharmacy and Nutrition Center in North Branch. He assists with compounding and helps customers schedule appointments for nutrition counseling.

You also don’t want to forget your four-legged friends. The center can create a prescription that is right for dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits and hamsters. Barnyard animals are no exception.

“The only thing out there is for humans,” DuFresne said. “When you start cutting it up, you get pieces and you don’t really know how much medicine they’re getting.”

Creative Compounding can also accommodate physicians and veterinarians looking for special doses. Specialty products such as shampoos and homeopathic products are also in stock. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Check out its Web site at ccc-rx.com.
