"We make it special for people rather than them going and taking it off the shelf," said Jerry DuFresne, a registered pharmacist who co-owns the center with his wife, Cheryl. He has been compounding prescription medicine for over 12 years.

The center recently completed some remodeling and added a second laboratory to meet the growing needs of its customers. Now you'll find even more vitamins and supplements with the addition of a wellness center, which also carries homeopathic medicines for osteoarthritis, cholesterol and pain relief.

Clients can receive help with hormone replacement in a more natural way rather than taking synthetics like Provera. "So many things made up by chemical companies are not natural to your body," DuFresne said. "We feel it's better for the body. We work with the doctor to customize hormone replacement for the patient. It's a patient-doctor-pharmacist relationship. What works for you may not work for the next person."

Mike Sadler, R.,Ph., owner of Advanced Pharmacy and Nutrition Center in North Branch, visits the center once a week to set up appointments for nutritional counseling.

Your pets also have special needs when it comes to prescriptions. The center can accommodate not only dogs and cats, but rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, ferrets, horses and cows. The medications come in a variety of flavors.
